Plus size is a pattern, not a multiplied medium
Adding centimetres to a medium pattern makes a bigger garment. It does not make a better fit.

The most common mistake in plus size medical wear is treating it as a scaled up medium. Multiply every measurement by a factor, grade the pattern, and the result is a garment that fits badly in a way that is hard to describe and easy to feel.
Real plus size grading is not multiplication. It is a separate block, drawn from measurements taken on larger bodies, with the proportions changed.
Three changes matter most.
The armhole needs to be lower and deeper. A scaled armhole sits too high and cuts into the underarm, which is why so many plus size scrubs feel restrictive at the shoulder even when they are technically the right size.
The waist needs to be less defined. A scaled pattern keeps the same waist to hip ratio, which produces a garment that pinches where it should drape. A separate block relaxes that relationship.
The rise needs to be longer. This is the one people notice first, because a trouser that sits too low at the back is uncomfortable within an hour.
There is also a fabric consequence. More fabric means more weight, and a heavier garment pulls down at the shoulder and drags at the waistband. A plus size set in the same fabric as a small set does not behave the same way.
Pooja Chaudhary had worn a scaled extra large for years and had stopped noticing the armhole. The first blocked set she tried needed no adjusting at all, which she said was the strange part.
What this means practically is that a supplier either has a plus block or does not. You can tell from the size range and from whether the samples look like the same design scaled or like a different cut.
For a team, it also means the measurement sheet matters more, not less. A plus size wearer has usually spent years adjusting to garments that do not fit, and will notice immediately when one does.
Ask whether the pattern is graded or blocked. It is a fair question and it has a clear answer.
